Please click on the link below for Abstract Submission guidelines, lots of helpful tips on how to write a successful abstract and make your submission. There is also information on the oral presentation and poster presentation awards. You may be eligible for consideration for these awards but please read the eligibility criteria very carefully to avoid any disappointment and don’t forget you must be an ESVONC member as well as being registered for the congress to be eligible.

2024 ESVONC Congress guidelines
We shall accept submissions in the following categories:
• clinical oncology,
• basic science,
• radiation oncology and imaging,
• surgical oncology,
• pathology.

Abstracts will be considered for both oral and poster presentation and we hope for a stimulating and diverse program. A panel of reviewers will evaluate and score your abstract and you will be informed if you have been successful in your submission.

An abstract is a concise piece of scientific writing and we feel that it is important for us to provide some guidelines on its format. It is therefore strongly recommended that you read the guidelines and instructions.

Our reviewers, many experienced presenters, have also made the following helpful suggestions:
When research work refers to veterinary patients or has used samples from domestic species, this should be clearly described, as this is first and foremost a veterinary oncology congress. If English is not your first language then asking a native speaker to review your abstract before submission may be helpful.
Clearly state the hypothesis of your study.  The abstract is broken into sections and they may not be equally weighted. Your audience are particularly interested in the results of your study, so make sure this section receives emphasis. Also submit your abstract when you have results to discuss. If your work is still very much in progress, perhaps this year is too soon to present it. Give your abstract an interesting and engaging title to catch the attention of the audience and make sure that it relates to the content of your work.

Finally, one of the most critical things is to keep your abstract to an appropriate length, not too short and not too long. The word limit is 250 words, remember not to exceed it! All presented abstracts (oral and posters) will be published in the Journal of Veterinary Comparative Oncology (starting Congress 2021) Good luck and we look forward to welcoming you in beautiful Bucharest in May 2024.

Important dates for the 2024 congress abstract submission:
• Opening of the abstract submission: 01/12/2023
• Closing of the abstract submission: 31/01/2024 23:59:59

!BE ON TIME! We suggest you start submitting online as soon as you have a draft: the online submission system allows editing until the deadline. Time is London time (GMT) - seems a ridiculous comment, but you don’t want to know how many abstracts are submitted in the final hour :-( Like in last years we do not intend to postpone the submission deadline. Review results communicated: ASAP!, but by 31/03/2024 at the latest.

Guidelines and instructions
Based on experiences of former congresses, the guidelines and instructions have been updated by the abstract review committee.
Guidelines on how to write a scientific abstract
Instructions for abstract submission
Guidelines after acceptance on how to present an oral communication or poster

Are you a Resident/Intern/Research Student?
Since 29 January 2022 the EC has removed the age limit for the award. It was regarded as being discriminatory. You might be eligible to compete for the Wim Misdorp Resident Award.

You will be redirected to the external online abstract submission system. This system allows you to edit your submitted abstract(s) until the final deadline. You will have to make a login and you’re set to submit. If you’ve submitted in former years over the same system, it should recognize you or you can ask for your password using the forgotten password button.
